Conversations for Timpani
A timpani duet by John Serry, Jr. performed with Austin Symphony Orchestra Principal Timpanist Tony Edwards at my UT Masters Recital in April 2007.
Northern Lights
For solo marimba by Eric Ewazen as performed at my UT Masters recital in April of 2007.
To Perseverance
This is one of my earliest complete works of any sort. Originally for piano and oboe and for a very dear friend on mine. The work now exists for marimba and selected woodwind instrument and is dedicated to Christopher Deane. This is the world premier performance by marimbist Andy Beall and oboist Anna Velzo as performed at a recital at the Manhattan School of Music in 2003. The work is published by Mr. Beall’s company Bachovich Publications and can be purchased at http://bachovich.andrewbeall.com. Find out more about this work on my compositions page.
Raiffiecouch
This is a rehearsal recording of an original Scottish Mayhem tune that is still in progress featuring Jimmy Mitchell on pipes, Daniel Dossey on kit and myself on congas.
Samba Dog
Another recording from the same rehearsal, this arrangement comprised of piper Lars Sloan’s original Guinness Dog and Rob Mathieson’s Sandy’s New Chanter. Featuring Jimmy Mitchell on pipes, Lars Sloan on auxiliaries, Daniel Dossey on congas, and myself on kit.
Salute to Alex Duthart
As performed at my UT Masters recital, this infamous piece of Scottish drumming is performed by an ‘All-Star’ Scottish drumline: Tom Robinson, Gary Smith, Daniel Dossey, Jonathan Leal, and myself on Snare; Nick Mitchell, Arthur Keen, and Ed Todd on Scottish Tenors; and Pat Larkin on Bass. This recording is featured on “NTC”, the latest album by the North Texas Caledonian Pipes & Drums from Dallas, TX and can be purchased at www.ntcpd.com
The Snail #3
This is an improvised work by Kalia Earsly on clean electric guitar and myself on marimba. Just for fun, Kalia and I set a few ‘guidelines’ (one being the opening Snail phrase) and said Go! The main premiss was for each of us to move along with semi-independence from each other and explore different harmonic interactions between our two instruments that are not commonly heard together. The result was the creation of two amorphous blobs of sound that slowly evolve and float through time. Named #3 because this was our third and probably least successful attempt. Also, this was the only attempt that was recorded!
Etude No. 1
Another early work, this duet is designed for entry level players. Etude No. 1 will add to a series of either 4 or 5 other etudes for marimba and selected woodwind instrument. This performance features myself on marimba and flutist Amanda DuClos of Webster University. This and future etudes are published through Bachovich Publications and can be purchased at http://backovich.andrewbeall.com. Find out more about this work on my compositions page.
